Welcome to TSNW

Welcome to The Studio NW.  We are excited to have you join our community!

The Studio NW is a dedicated space where artists can come together to practice their craft, receive professional training and be part of an encouraging, supportive group of artists. We want you to know that acting classes at The Studio NW are about more than just the technique of acting. We talk about the “Business” of acting, the process of getting an agent, working on sets, building and maintaining a career and more. Many of our students continue taking classes for several years, they find a home at The Studio NW and a strong sense of working toward a common goal. We are honored to be part of that journey!

We have put together some useful information and policy reminders that we hope you will spend some time reviewing prior to your first class. Additionally, our coaches and staff would love to know a little about you before meeting you. Take a couple of minutes to complete this online questionnaire. If you have any questions please contact the Program Director at info@thestudionw.com. We are here to help and happy to chat any time. Our founder also offers Career Consults if you want to deep dive into your personalized plan and goals. You can book directly with Katie HERE

Studio Class focus: TV/Film/Commercial/Audition/Improvisation/Cold Read and Scene Study. We train year round for a reason, we want to prepare you with a little bit of everything to give you the best possible foundation or to keep you on your toes.. Classes also deal with the challenges that being an actor presents. Students enjoy; guest teachers/speakers, learn relaxation techniques, improv, the business of being an actor, Meisner technique, space work, stillness and so much more. With over 20+ years in the film/tv community, we have solid relationships and are able to offer special events such as casting office tours, guest speakers, opportunities to join working sets, tour production studios, and other industry related events during the year. These special events are open to all enrolled students and typically will replace one of the four weekly ongoing class days of the month.

Studio Communication: We strive to keep our students updated on class & studio events, audition opportunities and more. Upon registration you will receive a link to join your class WhatsApp group. We highly recommend accepting this invitation. It is the fastest way to receive important class/studio info and to coordinate with your classmates to rehearse and share other acting information.

A monthly newsletter is also sent via email. These monthly newsletters contain important class dates, schedule changes and more. Please take a few minutes each month to review. Additionally, we pass along exclusive audition opportunities for our students via email. We use MailerLite for these communications so be sure to check your settings if you do not receive your first months message. We want to be able to pass along important and fun events plus cool opportunities to our students.

Class Policy: Registration for our on-going classes is open and on-going. Classes are $225 per month, and tuition is auto-processed on the 1st, much like a gym membership. This covers 4 classes a month. Occasionally there may be some variation to this schedule. This might include special events, holidays or scheduling conflicts due to coaches booking professional jobs. Students will be notified ahead of time of the schedule change. Please note no refunds or credits will be given to students who are unable to attend the different scheduled date.

Cancelation Policy: Students may withdraw from Ongoing Classes by contacting us before the 20th of each month. To cancel an enrollment for on-going classes, a written cancellation notice is required by the 20th of the month. Students are responsible for the following month's tuition if notice is received after the 20th of the month. For example, I request cancellation on March 28, I am responsible for the April tuition. To cancel contact the Program Director by email info@thestudionw.com. Additional paperwork may be required to ensure receipt of notice. If you have any questions you can email us at info@thestudionw.com or call 971.708.2127. Please note: there are no refunds for On-Going class tuition, Workshops or deposits.

Weather Policy: Oregon winters can be unpredictable and safety is our first priority. We follow Portland Public school closure policy. If school is closed classes will be transferred to our on-line platform. Meeting links will be emailed prior to class start time. We encourage students to call/text 971-708-2127 or email the studio, info@thestudionw.com if you do not receive the email announcement and meeting link within one hour of the class start time.

Attendance Policy: Consistent attendance is the most productive way to advance your training. Additionally, students who are absent or arrive late/leave early make it difficult for the scene partner(s) to get the most effective training. In the event you must miss a class please contact the studio asap and coordinate with your scene partner to arrange practice time outside of class time AND arrange a fill in scene partner for the missing class. Students who habitually miss or are late to class may be limited in specific scene work and/or removed from the class. No refunds or credits will be provided. You must attend class.

The Studio NW may offer make-up opportunities two times per quarter. To be eligible to attend, students must have notified the studio of their absence, be a registered student and RSVP to the class date. Students who are no longer registered for classes are not eligible to attend. The Studio NW does not offer refunds or credits for missed classes.

If you are booked on an acting job and unable to attend a scheduled class, you may make up the missed class in a different class with coaches approval and scheduling. However, please note that participation in the make-up class is not guaranteed and may be limited to observation only.

Class Etiquette: The Studio NW is a place for people to feel included, safe, heard and encouraged. We ask all students to please turn off phones during class and only snack during break. Chewing gum, eating, taking phone calls/text messaging, being under the influence of drugs or alcohol during class is disrespectful to your fellow students and coach and is not permitted. Disrespectful behavior will be addressed privately, however if it continues, The Studio NW reserves the right to cancel your registration with no credit or refunds provided. We train students to be professional in class as they would on-set.

Coaches & Student Privacy: Should students have questions regarding their class, curriculum or other comments we ask you to direct them to info@thestudionw.com. We will pass along the information and provide you with the needed answers. This is the best way to respect the coaches time and privacy. We ask you to please not contact coaches via social media unless it is to comment on a specific social media post such as “Congratulations on booking that job!”. Please respect your coaches' privacy and maintain positive coach/student boundaries. Feel free to send a message on THESTUDIONW Instagram or tag us anytime. We love supporting your work and celebrating wins with you.

The Studio NW adult class has What’s App that new students will be connected to. Please use this for acting related comments/questions only. Do not solicit your fellow students or add them to personal/business mailing lists without permission. Please be respectful and keep conversations positive.

Dress Code: Always wear comfortable clothes that you can move in easily, that does not restrict your movement or is distracting. Closed toed shoes with low or no heels are your best options.
